To the 15th Power

The work professors have to do to calculate our final grades.  These are my grades from one of my summer classes just sent to me from my professor.  Has any of your teachers given you your grade to the 15th power?   I thought this was so amusing I had to share.

  1. Don’t knock it – the right answer was derived: A. Makes sense to me! :)

  2. The last time I was in school, I don’t remember the teacher’s using decimal points. Individual tests were graded by whole points and final grades were just letters. Unfortunately, my letter grades were not as impressive as yours are.
Congratulations on your excellent study habits and your results.

  3. Congratualtions on your “A”!! Your professor seems to have a decimal point fetish. When I was in school, calculators were not as common as today so grades computed to 15 decimal places were unlikely. Do you think if you had studied harder you could have brought that 96.517730496453893 up to a 96.517730496453894? I’m impressed that you not only got an “A” but the class did not seem to be hard for you. Good luck with next semester.

  4. Dave3: I’m not knocking the grade. I thought the calculations were amusing.

I wanted to respond back to his email with something witty, but did not think it would be appropriate.

Shooter & John: Thanks for the Congrats, I achieved an A in the other class too :)

John: You are right John, the class came very easy for me. I’m going to need the luck next semester. Microbiology, Anatomy and Physiology and MicroEcon…yum.

  5. At the risk of being redundant, and without using decimals, I’d like to give you an “A”. On a scale of 1 to 10, you are at least a 20.

    ..)

P.S. Great job in school too!

  6. Well done, Jessie.

I think calculating the grade to the 15th decimal is hilarious. When it comes to grades there is no real benefit derived from going beyond the second decimal. This professor probably isn’t getting any at home…I think this would explain their anal retentive nature. Too funny!

Oh, I can help you with the micro econ if you like.

  7. When I was in school grades would only go to one decimal… because carving the stone was time consuming!!

    Congrats Jessie!!

  8. That would be, “…have any of your teachers…,” not, “…has any of your teachers…”

Guess it wasn’t an English class, huh?
